Fall Writing Frenzy

Fall is officially here. The air is crisp, the leaves are changing, pumpkins are everywhere, and…it’s time for #FallWritingFrenzy ! This fun writing contest, hosted by Lydia Lukidis and Kaitlyn Leann Sanchez, offers fantastic prizes by some very generous donors, with great opportunities to connect with fellow writers. Read more about Fall Writing Frenzy on Lydia’s blog.

The rules are simple; choose one of the 13 images that most inspires you, and write a spooky, funny, scary, beautiful…whatever-suits-your-style story, in 200 words or less.

AHHHH

Why does his head hurt so much? It hurt ever since he arrived at this house. Maybe he’s allergic to something in the air here, he thinks. Although he’s having a hard time thinking about anything, with this stuffed up, blocked up head.

Life was so much better on the vine, he muses. He missed the days of lolling around in the dirt, growing a little rounder each day, his friends all around him. He missed hearing the laughter of the school kids on their bumpy hayrides, bouncing along through the patch. Here, on this porch stoop, he just feels…big and clumsy, and out of sorts. Why am I here anyway?

Tztzz tztzz What? Ow! Tztzz tztzz Hey, that hurts! Tztzz tztzz

Stop!  Oh…wait skreetch, shirtch

That actually… ahhhh…. feels good.  Much better.  I’m unstuffed!

Tztzz tztzz  Tztzz tztzz What? Again? Not my…arghghshgh!

Through newly formed triangle shaped eyes, he spies his friends from the vine, on the surrounding porch stoops.

Tztzz tztzz  Tztzz tztzz More? What? Oh! He feels bumps and gaps.

Just then, laughing kids stomp up the steps, bags held aloft. “Happy Halloween!”

He grins. And understands why he’s here. And once again, he feels alive.
